Appearance:

Maleficent is a very intimidating figure. She's very tall and slender, but hides it beneath billowing robes of black and purple with sleeves with almost bat wing like edges. What little of her is revealed shows a thin frame. Her hands are not quite dainty, but have elongated fingers with red nails, and she wears a golden ring with a large black stone. Her complexion is pale to the point of being almost a greenish grey. Her face is also long in shape and almost gaunt, with high eyebrows, but she's no old hag, her face still has some beauty to it. Her eyes are only a black pupil on a background of yellow. Her red lips look almost out of place. On her head she wears a headpiece (or perhaps it is her own head) rather like a pair of horns.

She's rarely seen without her staff. It's gold with a glowing green orb set at the top.

Personality:

There's a reason why Maleficent leads the group of Disney villains. Unlike the others, while her plots may be foiled or herself defeated, she does not bumble. She is the mistress of all evil, powerful and sinister. She exudes utter confidence and is very proud. It's very unwise to get her angry as she does have quite the temper. She hates stupidity, being easy annoyed by it, but is, unfortunately, frequently surrounded by it. She also has little tolerance for nonsense, however she's not all serious as she does posses a rather dark sense of humor.

Maleficent isn't afraid to get her hands dirty. She'll take care of a job herself if her subordinates cannot be trusted to do so, which seems to happen often to her. Just can't find good help. She's also very set to her goals, even if it means helping her enemy to achieve them.

She has no real understanding of love and kindness. While she is not like a nobody who does not posses a heart to be able to feel them, she simply doesn't want to. She's evil through and through, but, as Fauna points out, she isn't really happy either.

Abilities:

Mainly her power seems to flow through her staff, which she is never seen without. Her magic is very much tied to the elements. Particularly fire and lightning, but does seem to have some other ability to control wind, possibly ice. Her almost "calling card" if you will, is a green fire that appears when she teleports herself and also can use to attack enemies with. Mainly, however, she uses lightning bolts from her staff to attack with. She can also create various curses, such as a forest of thorns, a terrible frost or, you know, casting a curse on princesses to prick their finger and die.

Also, her emotions seem to play into her power, effecting the weather in the area. You know when she's angry by the thunder in the sky.

She also has some shape-shifting abilities able to transform herself into a will-o-wisp and a huge dragon. As a dragon she can breath that same green fire and fly.

Because she is powerful she also can control heartless, summoning them at her command.

Maleficent a leader and is very talented at being intimidating. Those below her cower in fear of her wrath.

Weaknesses:

She's very confident in her plans and abilities to the point of being too confident in them. She doesn't create backup plans usually as her plans should work in the first place, right?

She also has the habit of relying on others too often to do her work, and they tend to fail her. And, like most evil villains, believes evil outweighs good, which is probably her most fatal flaw. Her lack of understanding of love causes her to underestimate it's power without thought.

In battle she is very powerful magically, but defensive wise against physical attacks, she is weak. Her strongest form is as a dragon, but while being large and strong, she is awkward and a small knight could likely get below her and a good stab to the chest could take her out. Like all fairytale dragons, rite? :|b

History:

Once upon a time there was a baby born to the king and queen. The three good fairies were invited to the party to celebrate her birth, but one was not invited. Maleficent was a dark fairy, who did not take kindly to being overlooked. She decided she too would give a gift to the child. On her 16th birthday she would prick her finger on a spindle of a spinning wheel, and die.

Luckily, however, one of the good fairies had not yet given her gift. She proclaimed she baby, Aurora, would not die but would instead fall into a deep sleep.

Still, the King did not want to risk it and all spinning wheels in the kingdom were destroyed and Aurora was taken away into hiding by the fairies. Under the name Briar Rose, she grew up happily.

However, Maleficent did not give up. She sent her minions to search for her, but after 16 years they came back empty handed, all because the fools even after 16 years were looking for a baby. Sending her last hope, her raven to search for the girl. He did not fail her. He located her at a cottage where she'd been living. However, her 16th birthday was about to happen and the fairies were going to take her home to her father.

Maleficent found the girl in the castle and hypnotised her, leading her in the form of a will-o-wisp up to a tower where she could complete her plan without interference. Transforming into a spinning wheel, Aurora reached out and pricked her finger, falling into a ageless sleep.

Knowing there is someone the princess loves who could break the spell, Maleficent heads to the fairies cottage and lies in wait for the man. It's a bit of a surprise to even her that it's Prince Philip who was the Princess' true love.

They take the prince to the Forbidden Mountain, she celebrates victory, and seems to enjoy showing the Prince how in 100 years she might release him, a old man to awaken his 16 year old love. Ouch. But things are not lost. The fairies follow and manage to free the Prince. They race to the castle while Maleficent follows, creating a forest of thorns to stop the Prince, but he chops his way through with the sword the fairies give him. So Maleficent follows and changes herself into a dragon.

They battle it out, and the Prince throw the sword the fairies also gave him into her heart, leaving only her cloak, the glowing sword pierced through it. And, course Prince wakes up Aurora and they live happily ever after, right?!

At least that's what was supposed to happen. At what point exactly the Heartless arrived and Maleficent became more interested in Kingdom Hearts than a girl destined to prick her finger is uncertain. Or did her interest happen before the end of this tale, and she was not as dead as was believed? According to Jimminy Cricket, Maleficent was responsible for Aurora's capture and the destruction of their world.

Either way, with her change of interest she gathered others also interested in the dark power of Kingdom Hearts and set out to claim it for themselves. At some point she also apparently recruited Pete who apparently helped gather this group of villains then went off to build a Heartless army. The villains gather at first in the world of Hollow Bastion, using a lair known as the Villain's Vale. There she warned them to be wary of the darkness.

Maleficent befriends and brainwashes Riku and gives him the power to control the heartless. Eventually she's able to unlock the rest of Riku's power and he's plunged into darkness. She's eventually found by Sora at Hollow Bastion where she started to base her operations out of. She's not happy to see the others have all failed to eliminate the keyblade holder, she decides to fight him herself, but fails. Riku, entrenched now in darkness, appears and stabs her with his sword, unlocking her heart and increasing her power. She transforms into her dragon form and fights Sora once more, but Sora triumphs and all that is left of Maleficent is her black cloak.

She's called a fool. Apparently from the start the Heartless, unbenonst to her, had been eating away at her heart. Ironic since it was her who told her fellow villains to be wary of the darkness.

But this was not Maleficent's end. It seems the Organization might have had some role in her revival, although for what reason is unknown. Xemnas ordered Axel and Roxas visited Hollow Bastion and free Diablo, her beloved pet raven. In Yen Sid's castle, the three good fairies are surprised when Diablo appears with Maleficent's cloak. Startled they realize they should not remember her, but accidentally one blurts out her name and they quickly flee as the cloak shifts and her she reforms.

She then returns to the Villain's Vale, where she surprises Pete, her remaining following. She asks of the "others", as if they should be meeting, but Pete says he guesses they have better things to do. Oogie Boogie was revived by Pete, likely by Maleficent's bidding, so quite possibly Ursula's revival and the other villain's using heartless might have been her doing in some way too.

However she views the Villain's Vale as a crumbling fortress not worthy of her, and wants something better to base her operations to continue in her quest for the power of Kingdom Hearts. At some point she hires the fairies Yuna, Paine and Rikku, presumably as kind of spies in, the now named, Radiant Garden.

Sora and company discover her revival when they find her in the Disney castle, when she tries to fill the Hall of the Cornerstone with darkness to take over the castle. She sends Pete through a door he'd found to his past, and has him attempt to destroy the Cornerstone of Light, in another attempt to take the castle, but Sora foils her plans.

She's then seen in the Halloween Town world, reviving Oogie Boogie, but Oogie doesn't remember her and sends her off. Sora defeats him. She the returns to Radiant Garden midst the invasion by the Heartless, but finds she has full control over the Heartless. She ends up helping Sora, assisting in holding off the Nobodies so Sora and his friends can escape, realizing she cannot stop the Nobodies.

The last time she's seen is in The World That Never Was. She sets her sights on the castle there, deciding it would be very suitable for her new base, and ends up once more helping Sora, saying she will take care of a mass of Heartless that are attacking. That's the last she is seen of.
